The hospital had some cancellations so they moved our surgery time up to 7:45 am and told us we needed to be there by 6:30, so we had to leave the house by 5:45 am. That is very early for us non-morning people. We actually got Alexa dressed while she was asleep and she slept in the car on the way there.
She was brave getting weighed and measured and doing paperwork. She gave a little fuss having to switch into the hospital gown but then she was laughing and playing. We took her back to the Operating Room waiting area and handed her off to the nurse. That scared her a bit because we couldn't go into the operating room with her. So she tried to cling to me and cried a little.
She told us that the mask to put her out was scented cherry and bubble gum but then she tried blowing out because the bad smell came. She woke up in recovery and the nurse asked if she wanted to sit on her lap and she did. Rick put on the "marshmallow" suit (as I called it) and went in to see her. They let him carry her with us up to her room. They had given her some pain medication and she was very out of it. She slept for a bit in her room and then she was back to being Alexa. She was having fun eating popsicles and watching cartoons, even though she has to be on an IV and Apnea monitor all day and night.
She has grown up so much and was such a big girl today. I stayed for as long as I could and it was so hard to leave her there. Rick is staying the night with her - he sleeps much better sitting upright and one of us had to be home with Caitlin.
Rick reports that she ate a lot of popsicles - they made a deal - she would take a bite each time they read a page together in her chapter books.
When Alexa's doctor met with us after the surgery, he told us that it went very well. Her tonsils and adenoids were very big and he said her tongue-tie was the tightest he'd seen.
I can't wait until she is healed so we can see the benefits of the surgery!
Alexa didn't want me to take photos but I snuck one in. This is just after she got to her room, so she's a little loopy and trying to watch cartoons and get used to everything. Rick still has his "marshmallow" suit around his legs.
Glad to hear she did so well! She looks great! Juli had her Tonsils and Adenoids out and tubes put in and she looked so crappy afterward (pics on my blog). The nurses called it T&A face. It was red and puffy and just sad!
